2009 Landmark VoteRescue Action:
HAND-COUNTED PAPER BALLOT ELECTION IN 84 CITIES HELD FOR DELEGATES TO 2009 CONTINENTAL CONGRESS!
On October 10, 2009, 84 "Voting Centers” in 21 states executed hand-counted paper ballot elections for their delegates to the November Continental Congress, an event organized by Bob Schulz of “We the People Foundation for Constitutional Education”. The election was a massive VoteRescue effort that took months of coordination at the local, state and national levels.
Because of many years of election integrity work and meeting Bob Schulz in the process, VoteRescue leaders Karen Renick and Vickie Karp had been invited to attend the amazing planning session at Jekyll Island for the (2nd) Continental Congress of November 11- 24, 2009. (See story "VoteRescue Leaders Ride the Train to Jekyll Island.") Therefore, we took the leadership position in helping organize the national hand-counted paper ballot election for the delegates to this historical event! (See story below "VoteRescue Leaders Ride the Train to Jekyll Island.")
Our first major task was to document the procedures for all Voting Centers to follow for the CC2009 Delegate Elections. It is called the "Election Procedures Handbook for the Election of Delegates to the Continental Congress 2009" authored by Karen Renick (primary author) and Vickie Karp (secondary author)
What's in the Election Handbook?
The Handbook details, step-by-step with important milestone dates, what needed to be done to prepare for a fully transparent, citizen-run election on October 10, 2009. The election procedures are actually quite simple, and allowed the CC2009 delegates to be elected in an easily-understood and totally verifiable election—the polar opposite of our public elections which have been hijacked for years by a handful of corporations through the use of their electronic voting systems which can be undetectably tampered with and which count all our votes in secret.
Continental Congress State Coordinators from around the country praised the Handbook as being an amazingly comprehensive and detailed document that took all the guesswork out of how to conduct a hand-counted paper ballot election.
VoteRescue wants to thank Barbara Harless of Garland, Texas, who assumed the Texas State Coordinator duties for the Congress, which included playing a major role in finding leadership and helping coordinate the eight Voting Centers we had in Texas: Austin, Dallas, (Farmer’s Branch); Dallas (Plano) Texas City, Temple, Lubbock, Tyler, and McQueeney, Texas.
Also, a thousand “thank yous” to dedicated VoteRescuer Lee LeTeff who organized the Austin, Texas Voting Center at Ruta Maya Coffee House. There was a festive atmosphere, a real (custom-made) voting booth complete with curtain, and children and dogs frolicking around the fun and upbeat atmosphere created by people participating in and counting the ballots in a true, transparent citizens’ election.
Texas delegate winners were Michael Badnarik (who later was voted President of the Congress); John Bush; and Ron Avery. Ron Avery later decided not to attend the event, so the 4th place winner, Jon Roland, filled the 3rd delegate position.
VoteRescue also wants to thank the amazing volunteers who came out on October 17 to help us count thousands of mail-in ballots that arrived from states who were unable to staff Voting Centers on October 10th. This dedicated effort went way into the wee hours of the next morning. Without YOUR help, we never could’ve completed the mission of executing the 2009 Continental Congress delegate election. Once again, we were inspired by the commitment and hard work of YOU, lovers of liberty, coming out and spending long hours to make sure that our Austin election was conducted properly, and that all of those mail-in ballots were counted fairly and accurately. We are humbled by your volunteerism ~ THANK YOU!
