Hello from /*VoteRescue Radio - Where Citizens Count.....One Vote at a
Time!*/
*//*
This Friday, August 29, 2008, from 6 - 8 pm CDT, we are honored to have
as our guest during our second hour DEBRA MEDINA, Republican Party Chair
of Wharton County, Texas, who will be on to talk about her lawsuit
against the Texas State Republican Party for the purpose to restore
order and integrity to the Party and ensure fair treatment of all of the
delegates at the Texas Republican State Convention. We'll hear from
Debra tonight about new developments in the case.

During the first hour of tonight's program, Jenny Clark of VoteRescue,
who has guest co-hosted before, will be joining Karen to discuss the
Travis County Commissioners Court voting session this past Tuesday at
which the Court unanimously approved the spending of an additional
$102,000 for 35 new Hart Intercivic eSlate Direct Record Electronic
(DRE) voting machines to be used in two (2) new super-sized Early Voting
centers in the upcoming November election. Jenny kicked off the official
VoteRescue line-up of speakers responding in opposition to the County
Clerk's purchase request with an excellent presentation of the multitude
of findings by computer scientists throughout the country. Jenny's
presentation featured video footage of Dan Wallach of the Computer
Science Department at Rice University in Houston testifying this past
June before the State House Elections Committee about how terribly
insecure the voting machines are and that there is no way to test them
to find the problems. Unfortunately, Dr. Wallach was unable to attend
the session in person due to his teaching schedule, but she did her best
to "channel" Dr. Wallach for the Court. Here's what the local Austin
Chronicle reported in their August 28th edition about the meeting:

"Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir went before the Commissioners Court
Tuesday to request the purchase of 35 more eSlate electronic voting
machines for an expected heavy turnout in this fall's election.
Meanwhile, advocates of a return to paper ballots turned out to demand
no further money be spent on devices they say can't be trusted. In
repeating the same points that they've made ad nauseam before, they
didn't make much of an impression. "What is it going to take for you and
the other public servants to listen and understand that using machines
that count our votes secretly is wrong?" asked VoteRescue's Karen Renick
in frustration. "I would say we are done presenting you with the
evidence because unless you tell us what it's going to take, we don't
know what to do." Judge Sam Biscoe replied: "It may help us to hear
something new and different. I think we get your point, and I don't know
that hearing it multiple times helps a whole lot." Biscoe said there was
insufficient time this election cycle to make major changes in the
county's voting system. Commissioner Ron Davis said he'd like to see
VoteRescue's concerns addressed within a year. Ultimately, the vote
passed 4-0."/ - Lee Nichols/

We will discuss in detail the farce that is playing itself out here in
Texas when the politicians at _all_ levels of government absurdly take
the word of just one County Clerk that _her_ testing can find the
problems in the machines when computer scientists from all over the
country say this is impossible. Welcome to Alice in Wonderland, Texas,
folks!

We had a terrific showing of over 30 VoteRescue supporters who came to
the session to express their opposition to buying more machines and to
tell the Commissioners Court to immediately cut off the county's funding
to the machines already in use in Travis county and return to
hand-counted paper ballots in November.

We would love to hear from anyone who came to the Commissioners Court's
session on Tuesday, whether you spoke or not, TO CALL IN TO THE SHOW
THIS EVENING DURING THE FIRST HOUR and share your impressions of the
proceedings that morning. the call-in number is 512-646-1984.
