/To all VoteRescuers in Austin,
/

/Here's a fun event happening THIS SUNDAY at Scholz's near the Capitol.
It's a _great_ opportunity to talk with Laura Morrison and Randi Shade,
the two newest City Council Members, and everybody else who comes to the
event about hand-counted paper ballots for the City Council elections
next May! Let's all corner Laura and Randi so when they leave the event,
they _know_ Austin voters don't want to use Travis County's voting
machines ever again!
/

/Come on out THIS Sunday and schmooze for Hand-counted Paper Ballots! /

Neighbors and Friends,

What a difference one election can make. If you have had to be at a
City Council meeting over the last few months, you know what a breath of
fresh air it has been to see our new City Council member, Laura
Morrison speaking up for our neighborhoods. But it is no wonder since
Laura is past president of ANC, has been in the trenches for her
neighborhood for years and knows the struggles all of our neighborhoods
face each day. But then that is precisely why so many of us worked so
hard to get her elected! .

And it has also been encouraging to see Randi Shade, our other new City
Council member also begin to take up some of the neighborhood issues the
ANC raised during the election last May. So how do these two new City
Council members feel about there first 100 days in office? Well you
have a chance this coming Sunday evening to find out.

*The Better Austin Today Political Action Committee *(BAT PAC:
_www.betteraustintoday.org_) is holding a fundraiser and has invited
Council members Morrison and Shade to a "City Hall Schmoozefest" so the
community can get to know our new City Council members up close and
personal! They both have agreed to attend, we will have some great
music, everyone (even kids!) are welcome and so here are the details.

This is a great opportunity for neighborhood folks from all over the
city to meet and share our perspective with these Council members and to
hear from them how they view their first few months in office.

*And **BAT PAC has also invited everyone we know (incumbents,
veterans and newbies) who have indicated some interested in running for
City Council next year. * While it feels good to have more appreciation
of our issues from Council members Morrison, Shade and others on the
dais, we have to remember that they cannot go it alone and that it takes
four votes to support of our neighborhoods on zoning cases and at budget
time. So this will also be an opportunity to meet potential City
Council candidates who may be running in the May 2009 City Council races
where several more seats will be up for grabs. Wouldn't it be wonderful
to elect another strong neighborhood leader to City Council next year!

Hope to see you Sunday evening

Thanks

Jeff Jack

ANC VP and on the Board of BAT PAC
