Dear VoteRescuers - TODAY is our FIRST VOLUNTEER BRIEFING! We hope to see
you there! Below is a reminder about our actions on Election Day and dates
and times of both volunteer briefings - PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON TO YOUR
FRIENDS AND LISTS! Thank you ~ Vickie Karp
Dear Voters Who Care About Election Integrity and Accurate Vote Counts,
Due to the fact that we are forced to vote on electronic voting systems that
have been proven by experts to be wrought with security problems and cannot
be relied upon to accurately count our votes, we at VoteRescue (
www.voterescue.org) have devised two ways to monitor the November Election
results. We are asking if you might be willing to volunteer a few hours
that day, Tuesday, November 4th, to help us in Travis County and perhaps
even in our neighboring counties! If you are interested in organizing
similar efforts in other counties outside of the Travis County area, please
contact either Vickie Karp or Karen Renick (contact info provided below).
1. "Trouble Reporting Stations" - We will be sending our volunteers far &
wide across Travis County, just one or two per precinct, with a sign that
says, "Report Voting Problems Here! - VOTERESCUE". Volunteers will have a
form that allows a disgruntled voter to "tell their story" of whatever
problem they had inside. We are hoping, of course, to collect multiple
stories of machine problems. If we are successful in getting even a few
good stories, we'll be able to feed those to the press to help publicize the
problems these machines really do present to Travis County voters. If we
are "lucky", we may get a problem that could make national news, as many
machine problems do. (Machine problems are already being reported during
early voting.)
By sending just one or two people to each precinct, we will be able to cover
a huge section of the County, even if only for a few hours each. This year,
with your help, VoteRescue will appear to be EVERYWHERE watching for
problems!
2. Citizen videographers: We need citizens who have videocameras and know
how to operate them to help us with a videotaping project that will need to
be executed in the hour or two immediately following the election. We will
be attempting to gather videotaped evidence that could be very powerful in
proving discrepencies with voting machine results. Details on this part of
our plans will be given at our Volunteer Briefings.
We will be asking volunteers to sign up for a (minimum) three hour shift,
either an early morning or early evening shift (or both, if possible). Details
will be provided at one of two duplicate VoteRescue Volunteer Briefings: one
will occur Saturday, Oct. 25th, 1 - 3 pm at Brave New Books, 1904 Guadalupe;
the other will be Tuesday the 28th, 6:30 - 8:30 pm, also at Brave New
Books.
Please let us know if you will be able to volunteer for at least 3 hours on
Election Day, and if it's okay to put you on our VoteRescue e-mail list (IF
you are not already on it) so that all notices about the upcoming meetings
will automatically go to you.
We hope to see you on the 25th or the 28th at our Volunteer Briefings!
Thanks so much!
